Courageous Rail Staff Member Suffers Severe Wounds During Mass Stabbing Attack on Express Service

A brave railway staff member who intervened to save passengers during a mass knife attack on a express train has sustained critical injuries, police stated on Sunday.

Details of the Frightening Incident

CCTV video allegedly depicts the staff member trying to stop the assailant as the train journeyed between Peterborough and another station in Cambridgeshire. Bystanders described a frightening 14-minute period after the train left Peterborough, with bloodied victims running through carriages.

The individual, a 32-year-old citizen from Peterborough, remains in detention for questioning. Police declared a significant incident on the 6:25 pm service from Peterborough to King's Cross in central London.

Crisis Reaction and Aftermath

The incident on Saturday night led to 11 people being cared for in medical facilities after the train made an unscheduled stop at the station in Huntingdon. Several individuals have since been discharged from medical care.

A bystander filmed the individual waving a big knife and being subdued with a Taser as he faced officers on the station. He was allegedly heard yelling, "Kill me, end my life."

“This terrible incident has affected many people. We are thinking of the victims and their families – especially the brave member of rail staff whose relatives are being assisted by trained officers,” stated a senior law enforcement officer.

Union Reaction and Calls for Action

Rail associations were swift to praise employees and call for more measures. A labor leader said he would be “seeking immediate meetings with authorities, train companies and police to ensure that we have the strongest available assistance, resources and effective protocols in place”.

A different union representative encouraged the rail company and government “to act quickly to examine security, to help the impacted workers, and to ensure that no incident like this happens again”.

Operator Commended for Quick Thinking

The train driver who stopped the train at Huntingdon was described as being “very shaken” but “well”, and has been praised by association officials for doing “precisely what was needed”.

“He didn’t stop the train in the middle of two stops where it’s obviously challenging for the emergency services to access, but he carried on going until he got to Huntingdon, where the assistance was pretty much already there,” stated a association official.

Additional Details

Authorities said they got the first emergency calls at 7:39 pm, and the service was compelled to make an unscheduled stop in Huntingdon at 7:50 pm.

An witness described at first thinking if the event was a Halloween joke, but soon understood from people's expressions that it was real.

Authorities have confirmed there is nothing to suggest the incident was a terrorist attack and have asked the public to come forward with any further details.

Train operations on the affected route are anticipated to have delays until the following day, with passengers recommended to postpone their journeys where feasible.

Individuals with details that could assist the inquiry are encouraged to contact police by texting a designated number with a case code.
